an
evening with professor Allan Paull
HyShot Program Leader
Friday, 27th August 2004
111 George St Auditorium, Brisbane
Allan Paull is a Professorial Research Fellow within the Division of Mechanical
Engineering at the University of Queensland and program manager for the HyShot
Flight Program, the university's scramjet test program. In 2002 he and his
team achieved a world first and obtained supersonic combustion in a scramjet
during atmospheric flight. In 2005, the Hyshot team will test the scramjet
in flight at 10 000 kilometres an hour, 3000 kilometres faster than in 2002,
in collaboration with the US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency. Queensland
is currently a leader in this technology, its satellite deployment systems
in particular. Allan Paull believes Queensland can produce its own small
satellite launch system or become an integral part of large satellite deployment
systems developed internationally.
During the evening, Allan covered in details the history of the Hyshot project,
before answering questions from the audience and being thanked for his address
by the Qld Academy of Arts and Sciences vice president John O'Hagan.
