The Queensland Academy was officially launched at the Auditorium, 111 George Street, Brisbane, on the 5th September 2000 by Professor Peter Doherty AC FRS FAA Nobel Laureate, in the presence of His Excellency the Governor of Queensland, Major-General Peter Arnison AC CVO, Mrs Arnison and many distinguished guests from government, academia, business and industry.

After Opening Remarks by Dr John O'Hagan, Professor Doherty spoke in his address of the very exciting times in which we live but also of the equally challenging situations with which the new technologies present us.
