Vale Graeme Turner

(1947-2025)

The Academy is saddened at the passing of one of its most distinguished Fellows, Emeritus Professor Graeme Turner AO FAHA FQA.

Graeme Turner was one of the founding figures in media and cultural studies in Australia, and a leading figure internationally. He published 30 books with international publishers, his work has been translated into 11 languages, and many of his books have gone into multiple editions. He was ARC Federation Fellow, President of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, and Director of the UQ Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies (2000-2012). He served on the Prime Minister’s Science, Engineering and Innovation Council, and co-authored an influential scoping study, Mapping the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in Australia.
Latterly an avid blogger, his most recent book, Broken, provided an analysis of the Australian higher education sector.

Our thoughts are with Graeme's family, friends and colleagues.
