With twenty-five years of experience in the arts, gallery, and museum sector, Sarah Johnson is the Senior Curator of QANTAS Founders Museum, managing the extensive collection of over 10,000 objects, including aircraft, aviation material, and memorabilia in the Longreach collection.
For the previous ten years, Sarah was the Curator of Newcastle Art Gallery NSW, the second-largest public visual art collection in NSW. Holding that position since 2012, Johnson managed a collection of 7500 works of art, including Australian painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and Japanese and Australian ceramics dating from colonial to contemporary.
Sarah has extensive experience with cultural institutions such as the Powerhouse Museum, Australian National Maritime Museum, Manly Art Gallery, Sydney, and Singapore. In 2010 Sarah received the Museums & Galleries NSW/Arts NSW Museum fellowship with the National Museum of Singapore and the Asian Civilisations Museum. In 2019 Sarah was Curator in residence at Bundanon, home of artist Arthur Boyd on the NSW south coast.
Sarah has many published articles in visual exhibition catalogues, journals, and industry publications. She has also been featured in art documentaries, The Still Point, Robert McFarlane and Joseph Lycett, broadcast on ABC, SBS, and NITV.
Sarah has a MA (ArtAdmin) Master of Art Administration from the University of New South Wales, and BA (Bachelor of Arts) from Newcastle University, majoring in history, art and cinema history and a Diploma in Art and Law from the Institute of Art & Law in London.
