The Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences exists to promote excellence in the arts and sciences, to stimulate activity in those areas that lie on the intersection between disciplines, and to provide independent scholarship and advice for social and public policy. Our Academy was in fact modelled on the aims and objectives of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Both of these august bodies support Fellows across many disciplines, and our Members and Fellows similarly enjoy the stimulus derived from interaction with colleagues from many walks of life.
We aim to promote advances in the arts and sciences, and to give a voice to scholars, thinkers and social commentators from a wide range of disciplines in furtherance of our Mission and Aims. Indeed, the Academy aspires to be seen as the intellectual heartbeat of the State, and contributions from Fellows, through the independence of the Academy, will certainly help in that aim.
We conduct seminars of broad interest, support learned activities across the State and host an annual dinner with prominent guests and guest speakers. We work closely with universities, research bodies and agencies such as the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Mudeum. We have enjoyed the patronage and support of the Queensland Governors since inception, and all university Vice-Chancellors.
THINKING TOGETHER - ACTING TOGETHER
Many outstanding recent advances have come from interaction among individuals from various disciplines, creating new fields of knowledge. This has resulted in new insights about the world in which we live, new disease cures have been found, and new profitable industries have developed.
Most fields of knowledge have impact on others. An Academy bringing members of diverse fields together has multiple benefits for the individual and for the community.
MISSION
The multidisciplinary Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences aspires to enhance the cultural life of the community by facilitating integration and collaboration across the arts and sciences.
The Academy promotes innovative and creative thinking in all fields of endeavour.
OBJECTIVES
- To facilitate the innovative interaction between and among disciplines by eliminating barriers to communication and development.
- To establish the Academy as a Queensland hub for independent consultation and advice on issues of major public interest in the fields of the Arts and Sciences.
- To promote outstanding achievement in, and encourage advancement of, the Arts and Sciences in Australia, with special focus on Queensland..
- To inspire a universal interest in learning, especially among young people via innovative access to the Arts and Sciences.

OUR LOGO
Eminent Queensland artist John Rigby designed this beautiful logo. Dr Peter Cook of the Queensland multimedia company QANTM digitalised it.
1. The intersecting blue curved shapes reflect the mutual interaction between disciplines while the converging red lines represent the focusing of minds on a specific topic.
2. On the other hand, many thoughts can be thrown around seeking a solution to a problem. When one is found there is what the novelist J B Priestley described as "the sunburst of the Idea."
3. The now diverging lines and radiating circles depict the dissemination of new knowledge resulting from "Thinking Together - Acting Together".
