  • A/Prof Chris Freeman graduated with a Bachelor of Pharmacy from James Cook University and has gone onto complete a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy and a PhD from the University of Queensland. Chris’ major research theme is on developing the evidence to support future roles for pharmacists in the healthcare setting. He is particularly interested in further developing the evidence for the pharmacist working in a collaborative model in the Australian primary care setting.
    In 2012, Chris became the first Australian pharmacist to obtain specialisation in ambulatory care pharmacy under the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (USA) and in 2015 was a part of the initial cohort credentialed as Advanced Practice Pharmacists.
    Chris was awarded the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s (PSA) Young Pharmacist of the Year in 2011 and the Australian Association of Consultant Pharmacy’s (AACP) Consultant Pharmacist of the Year in 2014 for his contribution to the advancement of patient care and to the pharmacy profession.
    Chris’ professional contribution began in 2009 when he joined the PSA’s Early Career Pharmacist working group of the Queensland Branch, being elected as Chair soon after. He was appointed to the Queensland Branch of the PSA in 2012, serving as Vice President from 2013 until he was appointed to the National Board in 2015. In 2016, Chris was elected National Vice President of PSA with significant contributions to the policy, advocacy and innovation at the organisation. Chris was appointed PSA National President in 2019 and served until June 2022. Between 2015 to 2017, Chris also served as a PSA appointed director to the Australian Association of Consultant Pharmacy.

    Throughout his career, Chris has served on external committees and advisory boards, most notably on the steering committee of the Queensland Pharmacist Immunisation Pilot, which laid the foundation for pharmacist administered vaccinations.

    Amongst other roles A/Prof Freeman presently works as a Consultant Practice Pharmacist at Camp Hill Healthcare, as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Queensland, and is the National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia.
