Professor Yvette Everingham is the Director Agriculture Technology at James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville. Yvette provides strategic vision and leadership to an interdisciplinary team of researchers in this field at JCU. Yvette also occupies the position of Professor in Data Science (Statistics), at JCU Townsville. Previous to these positions, Prof Everingham occupied the positions of Associate Professor, Statistics JCU, Associate Dean, Graduate Research Studies, and Senior Lecturer, Statistics at JCU. Yvette’s background also extends to CSIRO where she worked as Climate Impacts Research Scientist at CSIRO Townsville, working on the utility of statistical climate forecasting systems to advance industry preparedness to swings in climate variability. Yvette has a wealth of experience partnering with industry to effectively integrate climate models within decision making frameworks.
Professor Everingham also has a distinguished career with the UN World Meteorological Organisation (WMO Geneva) where she was selected as Chair of the Focus Area: ‘Weather and Climate Services for Agriculture’ globally. In this she led teams working in (i) Agromet Tools and Applications, (ii) Feedback Mechanisms and Outreach, (iii) Early Warning Systems for Crops, Animals, Pests and Disease. Yvette has also been selected as International Team Leader and Australia’s expert for the ‘Weather and Climate Extremes and Agricultural Industry Needs’ program within the World Meteorological Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland.
Prof Yvette Everingham also won the JCU Award for Excellence as Team member for developing the successful $16.4 million bid for the Tropical North Queensland based drought hub in 2021; won the Established Researcher JCU award in the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies, won the National Teaching Award in 2014 in the Office for Learning and Teaching, the National agricultural award being the recipient of the 2008 Sugar Research and Development Corporation Research and Development (SRDC) Award. This award acknowledges outstanding contributions made by an individual to Australian industry.
Yvette has been invited speaker to numerous International research fora: the United States Department of Agriculture – Colorado (2018, 2019), International Congress on Environmental Modeling and Software Colorado State University (2018), IEMS Department of Atmospheric Sciences - University of Washington (2005), Department of Oceanography - University of Cape Town (2008), South African Sugar Research Institute (2002,2008), International Research Institute for Climate Prediction - New York (2001, 2005), National Institute of Water and Atmospheric (2005), United Kingdom Meteorological Office (2005).
